In brief
Xinhua reports seven bodies recovered from a missing trekkers group on the Kedartal trail in Uttarakhand, with one still unaccounted for. The multi‑agency search, hampered by heavy snowfall and avalanches, continues to locate the remaining person. Authorities have air‑lifted the bodies to Matli Helipad and are preparing to hand them over to families.
Xinhua reports that the bodies of seven trekkers who disappeared on November 6 from Uttarakhand’s Kedartal trail have been retrieved, while one party member remains missing.
The eight‑person party, including a trekking guide, went missing on the Kedartal trek in Uttarkashi district amid heavy snowfall and avalanches on October 29. Most members were from West Bengal.
A local government official, quoted by Xinhua, said the multi‑agency search and rescue mission has repeatedly been hampered by harsh weather, preventing a swift conclusion.
"The recovered bodies have been air‑lifted to Matli Helipad in Uttarkashi, and authorities are arranging to hand them over to their families," the official said.
The authorities have committed to continue the search for the missing trekker, with teams operating in the high‑altitude terrain despite the continuing snow cover.
Families of the deceased are scheduled to receive the bodies at Matli Helipad, where the government will organize the transfer to relatives and arrange for appropriate burial ceremonies.
