A tanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz reported an explosion on its port‑side waterline, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) early Friday, November 6. The incident was said to have occurred at 22:00 GMT on Thursday, some 16 nautical miles east of Khasab on Oman’s Musandam Peninsula.
UKMTO relayed a delayed message from the vessel’s master, noting that all crew members were safe and accounted for and that the vessel stayed under its own power, continuing its voyage without interruption. The agency did not specify the cause or extent of the blast.
Investigations are underway, UKMTO said, and it has warned other ships transiting the area to proceed with caution and report any suspicious activity. No damage beyond what was reported was confirmed, and the tanker’s crew remained unharmed.
