The Irish Government has confirmed that a fuel support package is being finalised after a day of what they described as constructive engagement with representatives of the haulage and farming sectors.

This move comes as travel across parts of the Republic of Ireland has been impacted for the fourth consecutive day. Slow-moving convoys of vehicles, including tractors, have blocked roads in protest against soaring fuel prices attributed to geopolitical tensions, particularly linked to the conflict involving the US and Israel against Iran.

Earlier in the week, Irish ministers stated that no further support measures would be announced unless protesters halted their activities. Meetings with government officials will reportedly continue throughout the weekend.

The protests highlight the escalating discontent regarding fuel prices, which have surged due to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, impacting international oil supply chains. Diesel prices have reportedly jumped from about €1.70 to €2.17 per litre in recent weeks.
