A son of film director Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner has been arrested and booked on suspicion of murder after the couple were found dead in their Los Angeles home.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed on Monday that Nick Reiner, 32, had been taken into custody without bail.
Romy Reiner, the couple's 28-year-old daughter, discovered her parents at home with multiple stab wounds on Sunday, according to reports from CBS News.
Emergency services received a call around 15:38 local time, and when personnel arrived, two individuals, later identified as Rob, 78, and Michele, 68, were pronounced dead on the scene.
Nick was arrested several hours later at approximately 21:15 local time, but police have not disclosed any potential motives for the alleged crime, indicating that the investigation remains ongoing.
Rob Reiner is celebrated for directing influential films spanning various genres, including When Harry Met Sally, This is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me, and A Few Good Men. He began his career in the 1960s and garnered acclaim for his work as an actor and director.
Nick Reiner has publicly discussed his struggles with addiction and homelessness, which inspired the semi-autobiographical film Being Charlie that he worked on with his father in 2015.
The Reiners resided in Brentwood, California, an affluent area known for its celebrity inhabitants and luxurious homes. Following the incident, a security presence was noted at their residence as media attention grew.
Rob was vocal about his political beliefs, often supporting Democratic candidates, and his death drew remarks from notable political figures, including a controversial response from former President Donald Trump, who made political insinuations related to the tragic event.
This incident has spurred a wide range of responses from acquaintances and friends of the Reiner family, with many expressing sadness and condemnation of political exploitation of the tragedy.
