In a significant escalation of violence, Russia launched its deadliest aerial attack in months, targeting multiple cities in Ukraine. Officials reported that over 700 drones and missiles were deployed, leading to at least 18 casualties. The strikes were particularly severe in Odesa and Kyiv, where a 12-year-old boy was among those killed.
The assault comes shortly after a brief ceasefire during Orthodox Easter, a period marked by both sides accusing each other of ceasefire violations. Eyewitnesses captured images of fires and destruction across the city as air raid sirens sounded through Kyiv at 02:30 local time.
Additional reports confirmed further casualties in Dnipro and other regions, heightening the urgency for international response. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack, asserting that it highlights the necessity of maintaining sanctions against Russia. He emphasized that while militaristic actions prevail, the push for peace must remain robust.
In a related context, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha described the attack as a war crime, calling for intensified diplomatic and military pressure on Moscow. Meanwhile, the situation is compounded by discussions about Ukraine’s need for financial support and military resources to bolster its defenses.
