Police have issued an arrest warrant for the suspect in a mass shooting at Brown University that killed two people and injured nine others, according to sources close to the investigation. Authorities are searching for the suspect and a vehicle believed to have been rented by them.
The investigation is now in its sixth day, with law enforcement conducting door-to-door inquiries, requesting home security footage, and appealing to the public for tips.
A recent press conference planned by Providence police was abruptly canceled, but officials stated they expect to provide updates later. They are also looking into links between the Brown shooting and the recent killing of an MIT professor, Nuno F Gomes Loureiro, shot at his home two days later.
The suspect's rental car was reportedly seen at both crime scenes. While federal authorities previously stated there was no relation between the two incidents, the situation remains under scrutiny.
Police Chief Oscar Perez emphasized that the suspect could be anywhere and that they are prepared to speak with any individuals who may have vital information relevant to the investigation.
Public frustration regarding the slow progress of the investigation is palpable, yet Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha expressed confidence that the perpetrator would be captured soon.
The FBI has announced a reward of $50,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest, and prosecution of the individual responsible for the Brown University attack, which occurred during final exams at the Barus & Holley engineering building.
Authorities have identified the two victims as Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, and Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, a freshman student of Uzbek descent.
